Design a book to help organisations wanting to create their own pop up science events

A perfect bound book and an interactive PDF.

Process

• I worked closely with the author, who wanted a bright, inspiring and clean design that wasn’t too “text-heavy”. We went through many iterations but eventually settled on this.
• The details are intended to suggest a scrapbook or work in progress.
• We received some low-quality images so I had to create layouts that weren’t reliant on our photos.
• I created several distinct page styles so that viewers could read the book in a variety of different ways. For example, if the reader is only interested in case studies they can look for the pink pages.

Details

Pop Up Science is a practical guide to transforming empty shops into creative spaces for science engagement. It was written to disseminate learning from our two pilot pop up science shop projects, The Heart and Lung Repair Shop and The Heart and Lung Convenience Store. The guide also includes seven other case studies of pop up science shops from the UK, Europe and the US.
