DEVELOP Visual Experiments – Textures, backgrounds and thinking about layouts

After my visual research this weekend, I wanted to try and bring some of those textures into my work. I really liked some of the layers of paint I found, so I started here.

Both pages shown have two layers of paint- a coloured layer and a dark grey over the top. I’m going to try scratching into the top layer, although I wonder if this would be more effective when wet.
I also painted some tracing paper, thinking that I could carve into this and then scan it again. However this didn’t work at all – I couldn’t make a mark. Maybe acetate would work better.
A couple of backgrounds – not sure what to do with these yet
Tape tests. I thought the second one might make a good layout – the title could go in the void left by the tape
Had a vague idea to use these as a background but I think it’s a bit on-the-nose.
As usual I like the accidental parts the best. These are the backs of other pages, and the piece of paper I painted the rest on top of.
